Curriculum
McAuley High School offers a wide range of subjects leading to a variety of qualifications including National Certificates, NCEA. Our students achieve well academically.

Level 1 - 86% pass rate
Level 2 - 85% pass rate
Level 3 - 60% pass rate
Level 1 - 24 Merit endorsements, 3 Excellence endorsements
Level 2 - 10 Merit endorsements, 1 Excellence endorsements
Level 3 - 3 Merit endorsement
Year 9
Students complete a compulsory course including Religious Education, Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, Art, Performing Arts, Health, Music, Food and Textile Technology, Digital Technology and Physical Education. In addition they choose a language from Māori, Tongan and Samoan. Students new to New Zealand are offered extra help through English Language Support classes.
Year 10
Students continue with the compulsory core curriculum subjects with the addition of two option subjects.
Year 11
Students aim for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement. It is the main qualification for secondary students. It provides a detailed record of what students achieve while they are at school.
To complete an NCEA students must earn credits. They get credits by meeting Achievement Standards and Unit Standards in all of their subject areas. These credits must include some English and Mathematics Standards. The assessment of students will be constant throughout the year as they complete assignments, practicals, folios and tests. In addition to these assessments there will be external exams which will take place in November.
The NCEA will be awarded at three levels. Year 11 students undertake study at Level 1.

Year 12
Students who have completed 80 Level 1 credits will study for the Level 2 certificate in NCEA. Once again there will be a mixture of internal and external assessments to complete.

Year 13
Students study for Level 3 NCEA. A wide range of National Certificates are available, such as the New Zealand Certificate of Employment Skills, NZ Certificate in Computing and NZ Certificate in Travel & Tourism.

Careers
Students will receive guidance from their Dean, the Deputy Principal and the School Careers Advisor about appropriate subject choices to ensure that they are well prepared for employment and/or Tertiary courses.
