General Information
Communicating With Parents
We have a monthly newsletter which is posted. Students purchase a diary for recording homework at the start of the year. There are two Report Evenings in a year, and parents are urged to attend these, for an opportunity to discuss their daughter's progress with her teachers. We welcome parent contact at any time.
Stationery
At the beginning of the year each student receives a form which lists stationery requirements. Year 9 students purchase a stationery pack from the school during the last week of January. The school prepares these packs to ensure that all Year 9 students have the correct dictionary etc. The school provides this at cost price.
Length of School Day
School commences at 8.40am and finishes at 3.15pm. We have five 60 minute periods a day, and we work on a six day timetable.
Travel / Bus Arrangments
Girls should show courtesy and consideration at all times to Drivers and other passengers. No eating / drinking on bus. Services are provided on most bus routes from McAuley High School at the end of the school day. Girls should not need to use the Otahuhu Bus Depot except for routes not specified. Girls are not allowed to be at the Otahuhu Bus Depot without a bus pass issued by the Deputy Principal. Term Pass Cards (ie Fare Cards) are not sold at School. It is necessary for each girl to have her own ticket or pass, so that lines move quickly on to buses without congestion. Train times do not fit well with School bell times and girls are encouraged to use the Bus service.
All students are expected to purchase the student ID card.
Finance
Attendance Dues
Attendance Dues mentioned on the Enrolment Form contract are set by the Proprietor (The Catholic Bishop of Auckland) and the New Zealand Catholic Bishops' Conference. They are used to repay loans on existing buildings and to bring all Catholic school buildings up to State Code. McAuley High School is only a collecting agent for these dues, and the money is sent to the Catholic Integrated Schools' Board of Management.
Financial Contribution
The voluntary Financial Donation to the school assists with providing further opportunities for students. The voluntary Special Character Levy is for the Catholic Schools Office. In a family with more than two students attending McAuley High School simultaneously, the Donation is payable only for two girls.
Fee Structures
Attendance Dues: $186.50 per term
Voluntary Financial Donation: $28.50 per term
Voluntary Special Character Levy: $10.00 per term
Total: $225.00 per term
NB: The Attendance Dues levy is compulsory. The school does not keep this money. It is used by the proprietor, Bishop Patrick Dunn, to help pay the loans on the Catholic Schools in the Auckland Diocese. Attendance Dues are approved by the Minister of Education under Section 36 of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975 in respect of the group of schools forming part of the Proprietors Cooperative, Diocese of Auckland. The Dues are to be applied to the group of schools solely for the authorised purposes under Section 36.
Payment of Accounts
Payment of accounts is generally required at the beginning of each term, but parents are strongly urged to set up an automatic payment. Where a pupil commences a term, fees will be payable for the whole term, even if the pupil should leave during the term. Where there are serious difficulties are regarding payment of dues, parents may negotiate in confidence with the Principal.
