Catholic Special Character Review 2009
The following are excerpts from the external review made this year.
McAuley High School has been particularly blessed with the leadership it has enjoyed since its foundation and the current Principal is fully deserving of being described as a “Woman of Mercy”. She actively promotes the values of the College, speaks confidently on its mission and character and witnesses to them in her dealings with all who are part of the school community. Through her collegial style of leadership she is very ably supported by a Senior Management Team who fully subscribe to her vision for the school and shares with her witness to the school’s Mercy values.
McAuley High School is strongly committed to developing leadership among young Polynesian women and on the performance of the current Year 13 students can rightly claim to be succeeding with this goal and succeeding greatly. One piece of evidence for this is the high number who hope to pursue university studies. Another is the commitment of the Year 13 students to the Seniors in Charge initiative. Much of this flows from their description of themselves as the “Light Bearers” of McAuley 2009.
The Director of Religious Studies provides great leadership to the College’s Catholic Character and in this she is very well supported by the present Chaplain and a former Chaplain who is now a member of the teaching staff.
As a result of the quality of the services provided in the area of Pastoral Care the staff involved have a good credibility in the wider community which enables students in need to access specialist care faster and more readily.
The Board, Principal, DRS, staff and students are to warmly congratulated on the strength of the Catholic Character and Mercy charism within the College and the many fine expressions of these. The Proprietor can rest assured that the College can deservedly be described as a vibrant community of faith and Mercy values which nourishes richly the spirituality and lives of all who are privileged to be part of that community. It was a pleasure and an honour to be part of that community for the days spent in the school during the review and all sections of that community are to be thanked for their co-operation, honesty and hospitality. May God bless you all as you continue to live out the College’s Special Character.
