This course is designed to prepare students for Level 2 Chemistry, Physics and/or Biology.  It provides knowledge and skills for those who require Science for further study towards a career in the Health services, Medicine and Engineering to name a few.  The topics include Genetics, Chemistry, and Mechanics.  There is a significant practical component to the course, allowing students to develop skills for a scientific investigation.

Biochem
This course is designed to prepare students for Level 2 Chemistry and/or Biology.  The topics include Genetics  and Chemistry. There is a significant practical component to the course, allowing students to develop skills for a scientific investigation.

Life Science
This course aims to help students develop good foundations in Science and to help them> think and behave like scientists to prepare them to participate and make informed decisions as current and future citizens. There will be opportunities for them to develop an understanding of socio-scientific issues by gathering relevant scientific information in order to draw evidence-based conclusions, develop and carry out an investigation and consolidate scientific skills. This course also has a significant practical component.

Biology
This course is designed to prepare students for Level 3 Biology.  It provides knowledge and skills for those who require Biology as a subject for further study towards a career in Medicine, Health Science, Veterinary Science, Environmental Science or Genetics.  The topics covered include Ecology, Cell Structure and Function and Genetics and Evolution.  There is a significant practical component fo the course including an Ecology trip to the beach.

Chemistry
Chemistry is the study of the structure of matter and how it behaves when it reacts with other chemicals.  This course is designed to prepare students for Level 3 Chemistry.  It provides knowledge and skills for those who require Chemistry as a subject for further study towards a career in Medicine, Health Science, Food Technology, or as a Laboratory Technician.  The topics covered include Organic Chemistry, Atomic Structure and Bonding, Principals of Chemical Reacitivity and Solubility.  There is a significant practical component to the course.

Physics
McAuley High School edited (58 of 119)This course will help students develop an understanding of the concepts, principles and models in Phhysics as well as some of the physical phenomena experienced in everyday life.  This course is designed to prepare students for Level 3 Physics.  It provides knowledge and skills for those who require Physics as a subject for further study towards a career in Science, Engineering, Physiotheraphy, Medicine, Optometry, Dentistry and other technology based industries.  The course covers the Physics of Energy, the Physics of Technology and Practical Physics.  There is a significant practical component to the course.

Year 13

Biology
This course is designed for those intending to study Biology at tertiary level. The course covers Plant and Animal Behaviour, Gene Expression, Biotechnology and Evolution.  There is a significant practical component to the course, including an individual animal study.  Students also have the opportunity to attend a lecture at the Liggins Institute of the University of Auckland.

Chemistry

This course is designed for those requiring Physics at tertiary level.  The course covers Waves, Mechanics and Electrical Systems.  There is a significant practical component to the course, including an individual scientific investigation.
